Your first steps
You do not need to prepare a perfect explanation
Beginning counseling can feel like a big decision, especially when you are already carrying a lot. The process starts with a simple question: does this practice seem like an appropriate fit for the support you are seeking?
1. Reach out
Call the practice or send a brief email asking for a return call. To protect your privacy, share only your name, phone number, and a safe time to call. Do not describe what you want help with. Edwin will call you back.
2. Have a brief fit conversation
You can ask about the counseling approach, current fees, scheduling, location, and next steps. Edwin may ask for a general sense of what you want help with so the practice can consider fit. This conversation is not an emergency or crisis service and does not guarantee that an appointment will be offered.
3. Review the details
If the practice appears to be a fit and has availability, you will receive information about the appointment, financial policies, consent, privacy practices, and any forms that must be completed. Read these materials and ask about anything that is unclear.
4. Come to the first appointment
The first session is a chance to begin describing what has been happening, what matters to you, and what you hope may be different. You can move at a reasonable pace. You may also continue evaluating whether the working relationship feels useful.
